The Director of Talent development will play a strategic, hands-on role in driving employee development, improving team performance, guiding hiring decisions, refining growth tracks, and addressing sensitive team issues to minimize disruption across our account management and media functions.
A high level of expertise in digital marketing is expected, along with a demonstrated ability to effectively develop and scale digital marketing teams. The ideal candidate has extensive agency experience in performance management, talent lifecycle best practices, and hands-on experience coaching managers. This role is critical to building a high-performing, healthy, and scalable organization. You’ll ensure our teams aren't just working hard—but working smart, supported by clear expectations, effective training, ongoing development, and strong talent management practices.

Essential Functions, Duties, and Responsibilities:
- Performance Management - Develop and refine performance management processes including goal setting, individual development plans, performance reviews, and ongoing feedback mechanisms. Manage and optimize performance tracking tools, ensuring actionable, consistently maintained data
- Capacity Planning - Lead capacity planning, identifying opportunities for team growth, and managing hiring and recruiting processes accordingly
- Manager Coaching - Coach key managers on effective onboarding, management, feedback, and talent development
- Training and Development - Design and implement customized training and development sessions addressing specific areas for improvement, empowering managers to continue these practices independently
- Problem-Solving - Provide strategic perspective and proactive intervention on complex team issues, ensuring minimal disruption and effective resolutions
- Career Path Process Development - Create scalable processes for career pathing, skill development, and talent calibration
- Performance and Engagement Analysis - Analyze team engagement and performance metrics (e.g., eNPS, promotion velocity, turnover) to identify trends and drive action
- Hiring and Development Strategy - Act as a trusted advisor to leadership on team health, talent strategies, and development opportunities
- Employee Feedback - Develop best practices for delivering tailored feedback (written, verbal, etc.) to effectively support individual growth
Minimum Qualifications & Skill Requirements:
- 7–10+ years experience in developing teams specifically within digital marketing agencies or similar client-service environments
- Proven success as an exceptional people manager, having directly managed and developed large teams
- Deep expertise in performance management, talent lifecycle best practices, and team development methodologies
- Demonstrated experience in coaching managers, creating impactful training programs, and influencing senior leadership
- Excellent systems-thinking skills—capable of building structure without creating bureaucracy
- Hands-on experience managing team growth, including capacity planning, hiring, onboarding, and team integration
- Best-in-class communication skills, both written and verbal.
- 4-year Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, advertising, statistics, analytics, or a related field is a plus.

Office Hours:
This role is based out of our Austin office. Our Austin team works on a hybrid basis, with three days per week working in the office and two days per week working from home. Work hours are consistently 9:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M., Monday - Friday, with the expectation that evening and weekend work will be required as necessary.
